Before embarking on a project, you have to prepare it.
Here, the Darnassian part of my wowlang project (cool name lol) is more complex than you might think. If you want to keep things realistic and serious, you have to take into account not only the culture but also the people who speak the language. In the case of Darnassian, the people who speak it are the Night Elves.
I could very well have simply taken the phrases available in Darnassian and created my conlang based simply on the Night Elf people, but I decided to go for a little more realism. (because I'm a masochist, but shhhhh)
A language evolves with its people, so Darnassian evolved with the night elves. Now, in the lore, and according to wowpedia (the source I'm going to use in most cases), the genealogy of the night elves is connected to several other species in the game: the different types of trolls and the different types of elves (source for this information ) And there are bits of sentences and translations available for the languages spoken by these species !
That's when I said to myself: OK, instead of making a simple conlang for Darnassian and another one for each of the game's species, let's get a bit serious and create a proto-language for each of the species' languages.
With the basic idea ready, I was finally able to define vaguely the various stages of the project, which was then called "Troll Language".
The Plan (temporary)
Step 1: Group vocabulary. For each language, group the vocabulary words together and guess what can be guessed or inferred.
Step 2: By inferring the vocabulary, define the phonemes of the different languages and their structure.
Step 3: Create the proto-Zandali. Define the rules of evolution in relation to phonemes/grammar from one language to another.
Step 4: Create the other languages.
Stage 5 (with no real end in sight): Test the languages, improve them, etc...
